Mechanical and Electrical Quantity Surveying

Specialist, technically trained staff with expert knowledge of mechanical, electrical and specialist service costs ensure Summers-Inman provides comprehensive advice in this area. This is particularly important in health and research buildings where the value of engineering services can be as much of 60% of the overall cost.

This entails looking after client interests and monitoring the quality and financial aspects to successful completion.

Builders Quantities

Summers-Inman has an excellent track record in supporting contractors with tenders by providing Builders’ Quantities take-off’s for pricing. These are compiled and sorted in either elemental or trade format and issued electronically. This service is supported by our recent investment in BIM and Revit which enables us to process and work with the latest technology being offered by Architects and Engineers.

We have worked in this area for regional and national contractors on large-scale PFI and design & build projects in health, education, industrial, retail, commercial and residential projects of varying sizes.

Our software packages enable us to prepare documents in a variety of formats and to sort and summarise the resultant construction price into elements, departments, individual buildings etc.

Technical Reports and Audits

A range of technical reports and audits – some of which are subject to Government procedures - are produced mainly for public sector clients. These include reports for local authorities, audit work as part of National Term Commissions for Government departments and Lottery funding application assessments.

Feasibility Studies and Life Cycle Costing

Summers-Inman provides feasibility studies and option appraisals for clients who must demonstrate that the best-value options are always pursued. These have been undertaken on many major projects in the public sector, including the analyses of capital, energy and maintenance costs and of capital/rental values to Treasury guidelines.

A particular expertise is the preparation of Whole life Costs and an analysis of the Facilities Management consequences for large public sector works in health and education. This has become increasingly important with the growth of PFI, BSF and NHS LIFT projects.
